 As a local artist to northern Illinois, my mission is to blend creativity with functionality, ensuring each custom fabricated piece resonates with you.

About me

Going back 30+ years ago, as a young boy on the farm, I was creating knives out of old files in the farm shop. Whittling wooden handles, and I thought this was really great. As a 16 year old I started my first business making Adirondack chairs out of my parents garage. I could barely afford to purchase the very simple tools I used to make these but with the help from a small loan from my folks I got to work! Rumor has it one of these chairs is still around today. Over the years I have honed my skills with the help of various jobs and a desire to work with my hands and be creative.

Today

I pull from these last 30 years of experience to bring metal fabrication and woodworking together. With each new and unique idea, a new challenge is created for myself.  This challenge keeps me fully engaged. 

 I am first and foremost a husband, father, and a full time employee. This is my creative outlet in my spare time, and some of these projects take time. 

Why Steelroot?

There are plenty of very talented woodworkers and cabinet makers around who make very nice furniture. What I have to offer you is first and foremost art. Not just another well built table with prefabricated steel legs. I obsessively hand build each piece, both the metal and the wood components. This gives me complete creative freedom.
